The Chairman of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Valentine Joshua has commended the incumbent Chairman of the NUJ, Salihu Muhammad Alkali for his transparency, accountability and for priotising the welfare of Journalists across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
He gave the commendation on Friday in Lafia while receiving an NUJ chairmanship aspirant, Sunday John who visited NBS with his campaign team ahead of the NUJ elections in the state slated for July 20, 2026.
Joshua narrated that Alkali had done well in the about six years of his administration with the support of the executives which includes Sunday John who has been serving as Secretary of the union.
Meanwhile, he called on all the NUJ Chairmanship aspirants to unite and collaborate with a view to avoiding a fierce contest during the election.
He opined that the forthcoming election is supposed to further unite members of the NUJ for the progress of the union instead of breaking them or causing rifts and unnecessary disagreements.
On his part, the Chairmanship aspirant of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state, Sunday John appreciated the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service NUJ Chapel for warmly welcoming the team, and assured them that if given the opportunity, he would not disappoint the union.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Sunday John Campaign Team, Isaac Upkoju, drew the attention of the NBS chapel chairman and members to the numerous contributions and effort made by the aspirant in moving the union forward since he was elected as Secretary in year 2020.
Ukpoju, a former Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ, Nasarawa State Council noted that under the leadership of Comrade Salihu Muhammad Alkali, the aspirant had convincingly done well for the union, therefore he expressed confidence that there would be sustainability of the legacy projects which were executed by the incumbent chairman.
“I strongly believe in Sunday John’s ability to sustain the legacy projects of the Salihu Alkali led-administration, and also initiate new projects that will benefit the entire members of the union.
“I am confident that his experience in close to six years as secretary of the NUJ will serve as a guide to him in piloting the affairs of the union,” he said.
Ukpoju, therefore appealed to all Journalists in the state to rally behind Sunday John to enable him emerge victorious during the NUJ Chairmanship election on July 20, 2026.
