Nasarawa Lawmakers attend 55th CPA Conference in Malawi to enhance legislative expertise, good governance, development.

Members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have visited Malawi and attend the 55th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association CPA, Africa Region Conference.

The Lawmakers from Nasarawa State were led to Malawi, the Warm Heart of Africa by the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau Ph.D for the regional conference lasting between 9th to 16th of August, 2026.

The conference hosted by the Parliament of Malawi has as it’s theme “Renewing the Social Contract, Parliaments as Catalyst for Inclusive Growth and Citizen Trust”

The international conference was declared open by Rt. Hon. Sameer Sulaiman, Speaker of Malawi Parliament who is the current President of CPA Africa region.

He stressed that Africa region remains the pillar of the international CPA family as members strive to address emerging challenges facing the continent which according to him has over 63 member branches across Africa.

He emphasized that the annual conference serves as a platform for legislators from the Commonwealth Nations of Africa to share ideas, experiences, and develop practical solutions on emerging challenges affecting the continent.

Goodwill messages were delivered and effective experts papers were presented at the conference based on mandates and the summit guidelines as well as on theme of the conference where Stephen Twiggy the CPA International Secretary General and the representative of the United Nations Debt Programme made an exceptional and elaborate presentations.

They spoke extensively on the need for stronger collaboration and solidarity to tackle curruption, enhance good governance through efficiency and effective oversight functions and on the need for renewing social contract, strengthening democracy, good governance, climate change and justice among others.

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Dr. Danladi Jatau who is an active member of the Budget Committee of the CPA was actively involved in all activities making vital imputs as the conference lasts.

Speaker Jatau re-assured the commitment of the Nasarawa State lawmakers to assimilate the knowledge gained at the international conference and step it down back home to Nasarawa State, Nigeria for effective legislation and good governance.

He also spoke at the conference in respect to some emerging national and international issues especially Nigerian citizens experience in South Africa and global concerns among others.

It was reported that papers were also presented at the conference, deliberated opon and resolutions were reached on issues ranging from governance, peace, security, artificial intelligence, innovation, digital government, youths, women and social inclusion among others.

It was gathered that 13 Speakers of national parliaments and many Speakers from sub national legislatures and over 300 delegates from across the CPA countries are attended the Malawi Conference.
