The Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has called on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ensure due process and transparency in the appointment of its Director of Procurement.
The group made the call at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.
Its President, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, urged the NYSC management to conclude all pending disciplinary matters before making appointments to sensitive positions.
According to him, the call follows reports of a planned appointment of an officer whose disciplinary case is yet to be concluded.
Dominic said the group’s intervention was not intended to declare the officer guilty of any misconduct.
He said rather, it was aimed at ensuring institutional integrity and compliance with established procedures.
He alleged that a disciplinary committee had completed its assignment and submitted recommendations on the affected officers.
According to him, the report is yet to be considered by the appropriate disciplinary authority.
“The prolonged delay raises legitimate concerns regarding administrative efficiency, institutional accountability and adherence to established disciplinary procedures,” he said.
The group also alleged discrepancies in the officer’s official date of birth as contained in different personnel records.
It called on the NYSC management to independently verify the records through a transparent administrative review.
CSGGG urged the NYSC to suspend any appointment of officers with unresolved disciplinary matters to sensitive positions until due process had been completed.
The group also appealed to relevant oversight institutions to monitor the matter and ensure compliance with the Public Service Rules and other applicable laws.
It maintained that allowing disciplinary procedures to run their full course before appointments would strengthen public confidence in the NYSC and its internal processes. (NAN)
