Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency ( NASEMA), has attributed delay in response to emergency cases in the state to lack of specialized personnel and Technical unit within the agency.
The Director General of the Agency, Barr. Benjamin Akwash stated this when the Agency appeared before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts on their budget performance today in Lafia.
Barr Akwash said that lack of specialized personnel, professional units to include Relief and Rehabilitation, Medical and Technical within the agency is hampering response during emergency.
He called on the committee to intervene to address their challenges for effective service delivery.
The DG pledged to engage appropriate quarters to have a different narration in response management.
He further commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for prioritizing the activities of the agency.
On his part, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki commended Barr. Benjamin Akwash for bringing innovations in disaster management in the state.
Hon. Akwashiki also hailed the agency for good performance and called for its sustenance.
He said that the Oversight Function was to assess the budget performance of the agency for the second quarter.
The committee’s chairman assured the agency of its support to succeed.
” We will continue to support and collaborate with you in order to address your challenges for effective service delivery,” he said.
Also appearing before the committee was the Nasarawa State Bureau for Statistics led by Statistician General, Bureau for Statistics, Lafia where Hon Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, the Chairman of the committee commended the Bureau for good performance and assured them of support.
