The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged the State Government to provide more funds for the purchase of drilling machines for the State Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development.
This, the House said is to enable the Ministry drill more boreholes for communities across the State to ease water plights among rural dwellers.
Hon. John Ovey, the Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources made the call when the management of the State Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development appeared before the committee to defend their 2026 budget.
Hon. Ovey said that he who provides water, provides life as human being cannot sustain their lives or survive without water.
“I want to appeal to the State Government to provide the ministry with funds for the purchase of drilling machine in order to provide water for our people” he said.
Hon. Ovey commended the Commissioner for Water Resources, Rt. Hon. Muhammed Ibrahim Agah Muluku for doing well towards ensuring that there is good drinking water across the State.
He commended the outstanding performance of the Commissioner especially the new innovations he brought to the ministry and urged him to sustain the spirit.
” I want to commend you for the good work you are doing in the Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development.
” You are changing the narrative and we are happy with your performance,” he said.
Hon. Ovey urged the ministry to continue to be up and doing in order to ensure that there is portable water supply across the 13 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Committee Chairman assured of effective synergy and support to the ministry to succeed.
Earlier, Rt. Hon. Muhamed Ibrahim Agah Muluku, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development said that the state government was committed to the provision of water supply to the people of the state.
” First and foremost, I want to appreciate the committee for the support the ministry is enjoying from you and I urge for its sustenance.
” I also want to commend His Excellency, Eng. A A Sule for prioritizing provision of portable drinking water to the people of the state.
” His Excellency is doing a lot for the ministry to succeed in providing portable water to the people of the state and other activities of the State” he said.
Hon. Muluku said that the ministry is being up and doing in Doma Dam to provide water for irrigation for farmers among others.
The Commissioner, however, appealed for the provision of drilling machine, survey equipment among other challenges.
In a related development, the management of Water Board also appeared before the committee to defend their 2026 budget.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. John Ovey appreciated the board for generating more revenue to the coffer of the state government.
He also urged them to ensure constant supply of water to communities in the state.
The Committee Chairman assured them of support to succeed.
Earlier, Mr Joseph Wuya, Director of Budget appreciated the committee for supporting its activities to succeed.
He said that the board was determined to ensure the provision of water to communities across the state..
He commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for prioritizing the activities of the board.
