The Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has assured the Labour Party that INEC will look into the demand for the upload of the party’s candidates for the FCT Area Council elections.
The National Publicity Secretary, Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh made this known in a statement.
The INEC Chair, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu gave this assurance to the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Julius Abure on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Ifoh, she made the commitment during the quarterly Consultative meeting between the commission and the leadership of the political parties in Nigeria assured that she will “look into the matter.”
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Julius Abure and the National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim were in attendance as the authentic and recognised leaders of the Labour Party.
Abure however, congratulated the INEC’s acting chairman, Mrs Agbamuche-Mbu on her recent appointment and her leadership of the electoral commission.
In paying tribute to the acting chairman, Abure while appreciating her stated that once lawyers are on the saddle of leadership, it reduces, and sometimes brings to an end impunity and injustice to the system.
He said that once lawyers were in the saddle of leadership institutions are built and even democracy would continue to grow. Adding that this was what had played out in the affairs of the party leadership.
He appreciated the formal recognition of the leadership of his leadership of the party and as well commended INEC for obeying the court order.
Abure however, pleaded with the leadership of INEC to release the code for the upload of candidates for the FCT Area Council election.
According to him, “The party followed due process, issued notices to INEC, conducted primaries and the list is with the INEC.
“We therefore urge INEC to release the code to us so that we can upload our candidates and join in the ongoing campaign for the Area Council election.”
The chairman believed that under this leadership, INEC would do better, perform better, creditably, effectively, constitutionally and in accordance with the rule of law.
He said this would no doubt trengthen democracy and prepare the ground for better outcome in the coming 2027 general election.
The meeting was attended by all the 18 national Chairman and National Secretaries as well as INEC commissioners. (NAN)
