The TYB Ladies Section of TYB Golf and Country Club has celebrated Miss Longdi Paul Pwaspo following her successful qualification as a professional golfer.
The celebration took place during the section’s Sallah Kitty and Monthly Medal event on May 28, drawing club executives, members, caddies, friends, and well-wishers.
Lady Captain of the section, Hajiya Jumai Adamu, described Pwaspo’s achievement as a proud moment for the club and an inspiration to aspiring female golfers.
Adamu said Pwaspo’s journey reflected the values of resilience, discipline, and determination, which the club seeks to promote among its members.
“Today is a day of pride and celebration for the TYB Ladies Section. Longdi’s achievement demonstrates that dedication, patience, and hard work always yield results,” she said.
According to her, Pwaspo’s success has opened new doors for young female golfers who aspire to build professional careers in the sport.
“She has shown that no obstacle is too great when there is commitment and a clear vision. Her story will inspire many young ladies to pursue their dreams fearlessly,” Adamu said.
The lady captain noted that Pwaspo remained focused despite personal losses, disappointments, and repeated attempts to secure professional qualification.
“What makes this achievement special is not just the certificate she earned but the challenges she overcame to get here. That is the true mark of a champion,” she said.
Adamu assured Pwaspo of the continued support of the TYB Ladies Section as she begins her professional golfing career.
“We are confident that she will continue to make the club, Plateau State and Nigeria, proud on bigger golfing platforms. We stand firmly behind her,” she said.
Members of the ladies’ section and other golfers also praised the new professional, recalling her perseverance despite numerous setbacks and challenges.
Pwaspo, a native of Plateau State, was introduced to golf during her NYSC service at the 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, in 2018/2019.
She began playing at the Minna Cantonment Golf Club while actively participating in community development and leadership initiatives.
Her outstanding service earned her the Niger State Government’s Award of Outstanding Corps Member of the Year.
Academically, she holds a diploma in law from the University of Jos and a degree in English and literary studies from Plateau State University, Bokkos.
Despite several failed attempts to qualify professionally, Pwaspo remained focused on achieving her lifelong golfing ambition.
Her biggest challenge came after losing her father weeks before the PGA qualifying examinations.
She also lost her golf bag around the same period, further testing her resolve and determination.
Drawing strength from faith, family, and mentors, she remained committed to her dream of becoming a professional golfer.
Pwaspo also received encouragement from leading golfer Tommy Fleetwood and Anthony Emeli before the examinations.
Her efforts paid off after successfully passing the 15th PGA Q School Final Examinations in Port Harcourt from May 10 to May 17.
Speaking at the event, Pwaspo expressed gratitude to God, her family, coaches (Pro Musa Usman , Pro Samson Lawal, Pro Martins Odoh , Pro SJ Odegha, Pro Mike Ubi ,Pro Azi Ajang ) sponsors, mentors, and fellow golfers for their support.
“I am deeply grateful to everyone who believed in me when the journey seemed impossible. Their encouragement kept me going,” she said.
She described her qualification as the fulfilment of years of sacrifice, persistence, and unwavering determination.
“There were moments I wanted to quit, but I chose to trust the process and keep working. Today proves that perseverance truly pays,” she said.
Pwaspo encouraged young golfers to remain focused on their dreams despite setbacks and disappointments.
“Challenges will come, but they should never define your future. Stay committed, keep learning, and never stop believing in yourself,” she said.
She thanked Beauty Masters Guzape and Destination Allianz Limited for supporting her professional aspirations.
Pwaspo also appreciated the TYB Ladies Section for recognising her achievement and celebrating her success.
“I am honoured by this gesture. This recognition motivates me to work harder and represent Nigerian golf with pride,” she said.
The event featured the presentation of Monthly Medal prizes, with Adenike Fasanmi emerging overall winner after returning a net score of 66.
Pwaspo dedicated her achievement to the memory of her late father, whose encouragement continues to inspire her.
She said his prayers, guidance, and belief in her potential remained a source of strength throughout her journey.
Members of the TYB Ladies Section wished her success in her professional career and expressed confidence in her future accomplishments.
