The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has organized a Public Hearing on a Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Peace Building Agency and Other Matters Connected 2025.
The, House said, the bill, if passed would address conflict and promote peace across the state.
The Speaker of the House Dr. Danladi Jatau while declaring open the Public Hearing today in Lafia, urged stakeholders to contribute positively to the success of the bill.
It would be reported that the Public Hearing was organized by the House Standing Committee on Public Complaints, Petitions and Security and the bill is a private member bill sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki.
The Speaker said that no nation would achieve speedy development without peace, hence the need for people to embrace peace at all times.
” The bill is being sponsored by one of us .We subjected this bill to House committee on Public Complaints, Petition and Security and today, the committee organized pubic hearing to get stakeholders inputs on the bill.
” I want to call on stakeholders to make positive contributions as we cannot achieve anything without peace.
” Peace is paramount, peace is priceless and non negotiable and it is the necessary requirement for the development of any society.
” Let’s continue to live in unity and peace with one another as God did not made a mistake for creating us from different backgrounds,” he said.
Dr. Jatau also urged the people of the state to see each other as one family for development to thrive.
” We should see ourselves as one family and to ensure that peace exist among us,” he added.
The Speaker commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts to sustain peace in the state.
” I want to appreciate His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for his effort to ensure peace in the state.
” As Nasarawa State is one of the peaceful states in the country.
” Let’s join hands and support Engr. A A Sule to achieve permanent peace in the state” he said.
The Speaker further appreciated the Emir of Lafia, for promoting peace across the state and called for its sustenance.
Earlier, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Complaints, Petitions and Security said that the essence of the pubic hearing was to seek stakeholders inputs on the bill.
Hon. Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House said that the importance of peace to human and society development cannot be overemphasized, hence the need of the public hearing for optimal results.
” The focus point here is on peace due to the importance of peace to societal development.
” We decided to call for the public hearing in order to get stakeholders inputs on the bill.
” As stakeholders inputs will help the committee and the Assembly for smooth legislative processes and general acceptance of the bill, if passed into law,” he said.
The Committee chairman wished stakeholders peaceful deliberation.

Abdullahi Sule on Humanitarian, Dr. Tukura Sule Danladi, Director, Orientation and Mobilisation, Nasarawa State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism,
Mr Ugbabe Abel Okopi, representing the National Human Rights Commission, Nasarawa State Office, Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission led by its Executive Chairman, Saleh Barde Keana and Search for Common Ground among others appreciated the sponsor and the House for initiating the bill aimed at promoting peace in the state.
They said that the bill is apt and if passed, would address conflict and promote unity and peace among communities across the state.
They gave their full support for the bill to see the light of the day in order to promote peace in the state.
It would be reported that the bill is being sponsored by Rt. Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker of the House.
