………. As Obi United emerges winner in penalty shootout.
Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Peter Akwe, member representing Obi 1 constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has organized Peace and Unity Football Competition in his constituency.
The game according to the Lawmaker was to sustain peace among his people, engage the youths positively and fish out hidden talents among them.
The game which was the first edition saw the competition came to an end with Obi United emerged as the winner.
The finals of the game was played between Obi United and Ega Football Club today Sunday in Obi LGA where Ega was defeated 4 against 3 at penalty shoot out after a 1-1 draw.
Speaking at the event, Member representing Obi 1 constituency and organizer of the competition, Hon. Ibrahim Peter Akwe said, the purpose of the tournament was to promote unity, peaceful coexistence, harmony and spirit of love and understanding among the good people of the constituency.
This, he said was to also take the youths off the streets and engage them meaningfully.
Hon. Peter Akwe congratulated the winner of the competition and enjoined the other participating teams to also consider themselves as winners because the purpose for the competition have been achieved.

He promised to sustain the competition every year.
A big trophy, football and cash price was presented to Obi United as the winner of the competition, Ega Football Club been the second position went home with small trophy, football and cash price, while Agon Worriors Football Club who came third after defeating Young Stars Football Club of Ungwan Maman 5-1 in a Ninety minutes play went home with football and cash price.
Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Dr. Danladi Jatau, was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala in companied of some lawmaker to include Hon. Ibrahim Abdullah Sa’ad, and Hon. Muss Saidu Gude, among other PDP officials as they were decorated with medals for their outstanding support and contributions to the success of the games.
The football match which took place in Obi South Primary School play ground drew hundreds of spectators and party supporters from the five electoral wards that constituted Obi 1 constituency.
It will be recalled that the competition kick started in December last year with 22 participating teams choosed across communities in the five electoral wards of Obi 1 constituency.
The competition was aimed at improving on the existing peaceful coexistence and unity among the people of different tribes and religions in the constituency.
