Nasarawa Assembly commences oversight functions to assess implementation of 2026 budget.

….. As Education Committee interface with management of Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Doma, NASITDEA, others.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for reviewing the contract sum for the renovation of the Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Doma for its smooth take off.

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala gave the commendation when the management of the Institute appeared before the committee on their budget performance for second quarter of 2026 today in Lafia.

The lawmaker said that upward review of the contract would provide quality and standard work in accordance with the contract terms and conditions.

According to him, if the institute commence operation it will go a along way to create more jobs opportunities to the teaming youths as well as generate more revenue to the state.

He assured the management of the Assembly’s readiness to give more support for the quick take off of the Institute in Doma.

Speaking, the Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Lous Ogbose appreciated the committee for supporting the activities of the institute.

He said that the last oversight visit by the committee to the centre drew the attention of the government to review the contract sum to meet the current economic reality.

He disclosed that, part of the agreement with the Federal Government was for the institute to train One Hundred and Fifty Indigenes in five years.

He appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for the support and appealed for more in order to achieve the purpose in which the institute was established.

Also appeared before the committee was the management of the Nasarawa State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (NASITDEA) led by the Director General, Haruna Sani Sani.

The Chairman hailed the agency for good revenue performance and called for more.

The committee’s chairman also called on Gov. Sule to give special attention to the agency to be able to improve in the area of digital economy, saying that the world is going digital.

Earlier, the Director General of the agency appreciated the committee for the support it’s was enjoying from it and called for its sustenance.

He also briefed the committee on the achievements, challenges and the way forward for the agency to move to greater height.

He, however, solicited for the Assembly’s support to overcome its shortcomings for more revenue generation and economic prosperity of the state.

Furthermore, the Management of the State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board, Lafia also appeared for their budget assessment and was equally given commendation by the committee for good budget performance.

The Committee Chairman, commended them for training the youths of the state in different skills acquisition programs in order to become self reliant.
