The Republic of Mali has reiterated its “position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.”
According to a statement by Morocco Foreign Affair Ministry, Mali also reaffirmed its support for the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco as “the only credible and realistic solution for resolving this regional dispute.”
The statement said this stance was expressed in the Joint Communiqué adopted at the close of the 4th High-Level Joint Commission on Morocco-Mali Cooperation, which concluded Friday in Bamako under the co-chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Mr Nasser Bourita, and Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdoulaye Diop.
“The Joint Communiqué reiterated the Republic of Mali’s support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, as well as for the Autonomy Plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, as the only credible and realistic solution for resolving this regional dispute, in accordance with Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31, 2025, by the United Nations Security Council.”
“This position follows on from the Malian government’s Declaration of April 10, 2026, announcing the Republic of Mali’s official withdrawal of its recognition of the so-called separatist entity “sadr,” the statement added.
The 4th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali was held on July 21-24 in Bamako.
Recall that Mali earlier in April announced the withdrawal of its recognition of the so- called Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) following a thorough review of the Sahara dispute, which has an impact on sub-regional peace and security.
The decision to withdraw its recognition of SADR has added Mali to a growing number of countries , including Bolivia recently, that are withdrawing recognition of the Polisario’s entity and instead supporting the UN-led political process.
In addition, a number of countries across the globe have recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in the Sahara and supported the country’s Autonomy Plan as a credible and realistic solution to the dispute.
