The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, on Tuesday received Commonwealth Games para powerlifting gold medallist, Mr. Rilwan Idris Sabo, at the Council Secretariat in Kuje, in recognition of his outstanding achievement at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The reception, attended by government officials, traditional rulers, youth leaders and sports enthusiasts, was organised to celebrate Mr. Sabo’s remarkable feat of winning the gold medal in para powerlifting in accomplishment that has brought immense pride to Kuje Area Council, the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Shekwolo described the athlete’s victory as a historic milestone and a testament to the resilience, determination and exceptional talent of the people of Kuje.
He commended Mr. Sabo for his discipline, perseverance and unwavering commitment to excellence, noting that his success has not only placed Kuje on the global sporting map but also serves as a source of inspiration for young people aspiring to excel in their chosen careers.
The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development and sports promotion, stressing that individuals who distinguish themselves through hard work and excellence deserve recognition and institutional support.
“Your achievement is a shining example of what determination, resilience and hard work can accomplish. You have made Kuje proud, and we celebrate your success as a victory for our entire community,” Hon. Shekwolo stated.
He further assured that the Council would continue to promote initiatives aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents in sports and other productive endeavours as part of its broader agenda for youth empowerment and community development.
In his response, Mr. Rilwan Idris Sabo expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Chairman and the people of Kuje for the warm reception and continued encouragement.
The Commonwealth champion dedicated his gold medal to God, his family, coaches and the people of Kuje, whose prayers and support, he said, contributed immensely to his success.
He also encouraged young Nigerians to remain focused, disciplined and determined in pursuing their dreams, regardless of the challenges they may encounter.
“I hope my journey inspires young people to believe in themselves and never give up on their aspirations,” he said.
The event attracted members of the Council’s Executive and Legislative Arms, management staff, traditional leaders, youth representatives, sports stakeholders and other well-wishers, all of whom joined in celebrating the historic achievement of Kuje’s distinguished son.
The Kuje Area Council reiterated its commitment to promoting sporting excellence, youth empowerment and programmes that will inspire the next generation to attain greater heights and contribute meaningfully to national development.
