The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its participation in international peacekeeping operations.

Musa stated this during an operational visit to the Defence Section of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

He was in New York as part of Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly, whose general debate commenced on Tuesday.

During the visit, the minister received a briefing from the Defence Attaché, Brig.-Gen. E.A. Koleosho, on the section’s strategic activities and operational commitments.

Musa commended Koleosho and his team for their professionalism, loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

He said the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, was committed to restoring and expanding Nigeria’s active role in international peace and security efforts.

The minister said the administration would continue to reinvigorate Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations around the world to promote stability and security.

Musa’s position aligns with Nigeria’s longstanding engagement in UN peacekeeping, with the country among the major troop- and police-contributing nations to UN missions.

The 81st UN General Assembly general debate is being held from Sept. 22 to 26 and Sept. 28 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
