……As Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana raises alarm over killing of 32 people in 3 months in his Constituency.
Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged Gov. Abdullahi Sule to direct the State Commissioner of Police and his men to relocate to Udege and other communities over renew crisis in the State.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau PH.D the Speaker of the House made the call under matter of Public importance brought by Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, member representing Udege/Loko Constituency during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker described the renew attacks in Udege communities and other places in the State as unfortunate.
He said that that crisis would affect the development of the affected communities and the State negatively.
“The resolution of the House is to the effect that we urge Gov. Abdullahi Sule to direct the Commissioner of Police to move his men to maintain peace and order in Udege and other affected communities in the State.
“Community leaders and Chiefs should set up peace and reconciliation committee in their domains for peace to reign.
“The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to also intervene as a son of soil to deploy his men to maintain peace in all the affected areas” he said.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate its resolution to Gov. Sule for his further necessary action.
Also Contributing, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, Hon. Barr. Esson Mairiga, Hon. Hudu A. Hudu, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki and Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Peter Akwe supported Hon. Kana and urged for deployment of security agents to the affected communities.
The said that the deployment of Police and other security personnel to the affected areas across the state would help to restore peace and order.
They all enumerated various degrees of crisis in their various constituencies and called for proactive steps.
Earlier, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, member representing Udege/ Loko Constituency while raising the issue said that the renew crisis has affected the lives of the people of his constituency negatively.
He said that his people cannot longer sleep with their two eyes closed.
“Rt. Hon. Speaker and my colleagues, I have a matter of Public Interest regarding Odeni Gida Electoral Ward Communal Crisis.
“This motion addresses the escalating inter-communal conflict/security breach currently ongoing in Nasarawa Local Government Area/ Udege Development Area, Odeni ward.
”The Crisis at a Glance
Over the past three months, since on the 3rd April, 2026 the peace of Odeni Gida electoral ward of Nasarawa Local Government in Nasarawa State has been severely disrupted by the herdsmen.
“The situation has resulted in” Human Toll” The tragic loss of about 32 people while others were reportedly injured and others missing, Houses were set ablaze, Cars, motorcycles, food stuff and other valuables.
”Displacement: Over 200 residents have been displaced from their homes, now seeking refuge in makeshift camps.
” Economic/Properties Damage:
Properties, farmlands, and local businesses worth Millions have been completely razed or destroyed.
”The crisis is currently crippling socio-economic activities in the villages of odeni Gida electoral ward and poses a direct threat to the broader peace and stability of our dear people of Angwan Mada, Apura Adagba, Udege Kasa, Akyewa, Angwan Ogiri, and other communities,
“The people are no longer going to their farms comfortably. Farm crops are now the best and sweetest food the cattles eat and let the villagers with hunger” he said.
Hon. Onarigu also lamented that on the 25th June, 2026 Akum electoral ward has experienced the killing of one in Akum town on his way coming back from farm.
“And the other in his farm at Agam village on the 9th July, 2026 this quagmires has to stop. it’s splitting already.
“Something need to be done, If this honourable house fails to act immediately, the violence threatens to spill over into neighboring communities again, further compounding the humanitarian and security challenges in the state,” he said.
He called on the Speaker and other Honourable members to support his motion to enable the state government redeploy police and other security agencies to the affected communities for peace to be restored.
”In light of the foregoing, I respectfully urge this Honorable House to resolve as follows: Condemn: To outrightly condemn the violence and breakdown of law and order in Udege Development Area, precisely Odeni Gida Ward.
”Direct Security Agencies: To mandate the Commissioner of Police, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other relevant security outfits to immediately deploy personnel to restore peace, and protect lives and property.
”Relief Materials: To call on the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials (food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter) to the displaced victims.
”Investigate:
To mandate the House Committee on Security/ Special Duties to investigate the root causes of this crisis and report back to this Honourable House, I so submit, Mr. Speaker,” he added.
