COAS commissions new accommodation for soldiers in Port Harcourt

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned newly constructed accommodation blocks for soldiers at the 6 Division, Port Harcourt, to boost personnel welfare.

This is contained in a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, on Friday in Abuja.

Anele said the project underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to personnel welfare under the COAS’ Soldier First culture.

Speaking at the event, Shaibu said providing decent, secure and conducive accommodation for personnel and their families remained a strategic priority of his administration.

He said improved living conditions would enhance troops’ morale, strengthen operational readiness and improve administrative efficiency in carrying out the Army’s constitutional responsibilities.

The COAS said a well-motivated and adequately cared-for soldier was better positioned to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and respond effectively to emerging security threats.

According to him, sustained investment in personnel welfare remains a critical enabler of a more professional, resilient and combat-ready Nigerian Army.

Shaibu expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support and provision of resources to strengthen personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.

He said the support had reinforced the Nigerian Army’s capacity to discharge its constitutional mandate in safeguarding Nigeria’s security.
