Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau Ph.D has raised concern on series of attacks on Nigerian citizens in South Africa advocating global condemnation on what he described as barbaric acts.
This, the head of a Nigerian parliamentary institution and the Number Three Citizen of Nasarawa State called on the members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to raise and lay their voices on the matter by speaking against the attacks on Nigerians in South Africa as well as take a common stance on the matter.
Dr. Jatau, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly made the call at the 55th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association CPA, Conference holding in Malawi.
The Speaker who led other Lawmakers from Nasarawa State to Malawi, the Warm Heart of Africa for the regional summit spoke extensively and bitterly on the sad developments and ill treatment of Nigerians in South Africa saying that the act is totally unacceptable.
He called on member countries to join him in the crusade for the overall peace, unity and development as well as brotherhood for the commonwealth nations.
“The act committed to most our country people in South Africa should totally be condemned by this CPA first before taking any punitive measures or whatever you think of finding lasting solutions to it” He said.
“We should first condemned the act because for all indications is like the South African parliament members here are trying to defend what is happening in their country, we Nigerians we know what our people are going through there in South Africa”
“We hosted them in Nigeria, with love and brotherhood, they established businesses on conducive environments without any ill treatment but in our own case, the reverse is the case, why? Therefore, we must condemn the act totally before finding solutions to it” he added.
It was reported that the conference hosted by the Parliament of Malawi has as it’s theme “Renewing the Social Contract, Parliaments as Catalyst for Inclusive Growth and Citizen Trust”
It was also reported that the international conference was declared open by Rt. Hon. Sameer Sulaiman, Speaker of Malawi Parliament who is the current President of CPA Africa region.
The annual conference serves as a platform for legislators from the Commonwealth Nations of Africa to share ideas, experiences, and develop practical solutions on emerging challenges affecting the continent and the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Dr. Danladi Jatau is a member of the Budget Committee of the CPA.
The 2026 Malawi conference has over 300 delegates from across CPA countries participating.
