The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, says Rotary Club of Abuja Community Development Initiatives has positively impacted millions of lives particularly in rural communities.
Pheelangwah said this when the leadership and other members of the club paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja to present an award of excellence to him.
The award titled ‘Award of Excellence, Leadership and Service’ President of the club, Rotarian Kate Adamu said was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service and unwavering support to community development initiatives.
Pheelangwah commended the club for their longstanding commitment to humanitarian services and community development.
He said rotary had positively impacted millions of lives particularly in rural communities through its community development initiatives.
He, therefore, pledged his continued support in advancing the club’s mission.
“I deeply appreciate this honour and recognition.
“Rotary International has shown consistent dedication to humanitarian causes, and I am encouraged to do even more to support your initiatives,” he said.
Earlier the President of the club, Rotarian Kate Adamu, reiterated the club’s commitment to vocational services and ethical leadership.
He said that they came to honour Pheelangwah because of his integrity and excellent service in his chosen professions.
“The award titled ‘Award of Excellence, Leadership and Service’ is in recognition of your outstanding contributions to public service and unwavering support to community development initiatives,” Adamu said.
He noted that the recognition was not merely ceremonial, but an affirmation of Rotary’s core values, as outlined in the Four-Way Test of the Club.
“We honour individuals who exemplify integrity, excellence, and service in their various professions. Your name came up at our board meeting and was unanimously approved for this award.
“Though the official ceremony was slated for last year, we believe it is never too late to recognise a deserving individual of your calibre,” she said.
Similarly, Rotarian Evelyn Onyilo, a former Assistant Governor of the Club, highlighted the club’s numerous achievements reaffirming its commitment to transforming lives, particularly in underserved communities.
She said the club is open to welcoming new members, including the permanent secretary and others who share the Rotary’s ideals.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the Award along with the Rotary Banner to Pheelangwah. (NAN)
