Operatives of Nigeria Police and Department of State Service (DSS) have neutralised three-man armed robbery gang that specialises in robbing Point of Sale (POS) business operators within Enugu metropolis.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday in Enugu.

Ndukwe said that the feat was achieved after a gun duel with the armed hoodlums at about  1p.m. at Second Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.

He said that the feat led to the recovery of two locally-made revolver pistols, six live rounds of .9mm calibre ammunition and the gang’s operational tricycle with Enugu registration number MGL 100 WL and fleet number ENS/20560.

“Other exhibits recovered are cash sums of about N500,000; rolls of POS transaction printing papers, assorted mobile phones, wallets, bags and objects suspected to be charms,” he said.

According to him, the hoodlums robbed different POS operators and their customers at different locations at gun-point within Enugu metropolis.

“The hoodlums had at about 1p.m. of today (Nov. 26), attacked POS operators at different locations in Enugu metropolis, dispossessing them of the recovered exhibits.

“The operatives, however, mounted surveillance on them, while the criminal elements opened fire upon sighting them (the joint operatives).

“The security operatives responded with superior firepower, neutralising the three of them and recovering the exhibits in the process,” he said.

The police spokesman said that many of the victims had identified the hoodlums, and some recovered exhibits, as theirs.

“Further discreet investigation to fish out other members of the criminal gang is ongoing,” he added.
