The annual Abuja Christmas Village organisers said plans are underway to provide food and other humanitarian items to widows, orphans, and other less privileged people in celebration of the Yuletide.

Mrs Gwen Eze-Iyiakaimo, Founder and Chairperson, the organising committee of the Holiday Village Market, organisers of the Christmas village, stated this at a news conference to unveil programmes for ‘ Abuja Holiday Village Fair and Charity Drive.’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Fair and Charity Drive, is a flagship component of the Holiday Village Market, a festive hub situated in the Life camp area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Eze-Iyiakaimo, the Christmas village slated to open on Dec. 8, will run for two weeks, featuring performances by artistes, trade fair and the humanitarian drive.

“We understand the hunger in the land because of inflation, so we are launching a charity drive to help those in need in our community.

“We shall have a charity drive, where we can feed about 10,000 less privileged, including orphans and widows during that period.

“Those who cannot afford to eat can come in from Dec. 24 to 28 and will get food, and we are hoping to bring everybody in and create a unique experience for Christmas.

“We invite everyone to participate by donating items voluntarily, to enable us spread true holiday cheer throughout our community.

“The festival village is filled with market stalls, family activities, live performances, and incredible food and drink that showcase the best of Nigerian culture,” she said.

Mr Phil-George Didigwe, Head of Communication of the Group, said the Charity Drive initiative of the Holiday Village Market was conceived to be a give-back gesture to local communities in the territory.

“This was born out of passionate commitment from the founders and some members of the management team to create a unique experience, especially for the under- privileged in our society,” he said (NAN)
