Joshua Obike, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in thel House of Representatives has commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), FCT Chapter, tree planting initiative.
Obike gave the commendation at the commencement exercise on Wednesday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event is part of activities lined up to commemorate the 35 years anniversary of the Chapter.
NAN also reports that the tree knows as “Flame of the Forest” which is best known for its beautiful, radiant flowers that blossom just upon the arrival of Spring, in the month of March and April was unveiled as the symbolic tree for the exercise.
According to Obika, 35 years is not a mere passage of time; it is a testament of dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
He noted that over three decades, members of the NIPR in the FCT have been architects of positive narratives and guardians of reputation management in the nation’s capital.
“You have made Abuja not just the seat of government, but a beacon of strategic communication.Today’s event underscores an important truth.
“Public Relations has evolved beyond mere publicity into a strategic leadership function; one that is essential for shaping national discourse, fostering inclusive development. and managing our collective reputation in an increasingly complex world.
“The ‘Flame of the Forest’ is a symbol of growth and legacy; the act of planting this reputable tree is a powerful metaphor.
“Just as this tree will take root and grow, providing shade and beauty for years to come, so does the NIPR seek to embed the principles of truth, integrity, and sustainable reputation into the very soil of our society.
“This tree symbolises growth, renewal, and a green legacy for future generations, mirroring the chapter’s own 35-year journey of iimpact”, Obika said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Chapter, Mr Stanley Ogadigo, said the planting of the tree at the Wuye interchange of the FCT reflected commitment of the chapter to giving back to the community that continues to inspire and support its work.
According to him, the tree planting initiative is part of our societal impact programme; a component of our partnership with the FCT administration in the ongoing development of our nation’s capital.
“It is also a testament to our deep connection with our host community.
“Beyond today, we shall rehabilitate and brand some select bus stops, as well as make donation of NIPR publications to the National Assembly library.
“We intend to institute annual programmes promoting environmental stewardship through tree planting and advocacies of sustainable development programmes.
“In doing so, we are also unveiling the ‘Flame of the Forest’ as the symbolic tree of Abuja’s vegetation, and as the reputation tree of the NIPR FCT, chapter.
“This gesture aligns us with global cities that proudly uphold their iconic trees.”
He said that such cities include Dubai with its Date Palm, Athens with the Olive, New York with the Elm, and Lebanon with the Cedar, among others.
“This loop of the Wuye bridge interchange shall be christened Numero Uno Avenue,” Ogadigo said.
