A philanthropist, Dr Chetachi Ecton, says she is set to provide accelerate second chance education and livlihood skills for women, girls and boys across the country.
Ecton made this known at the her unveiling of her pet project ‘Scale-Up for Sustainability of EU-UN Spotlight Initiative on Provision of accelerated Second Chance Education and Livelihood Skills’ in Abuja.
The unveiling was put together by her Foundation, ‘When In Need Foundation’ and ‘Nigerian Non-Governmental Association for Literacy Support Services’ (NOGALSS).
“Women are very important in the development of a family. Women are nation builders and thus carrying then along in the development of any country is a fundamental necessity.
“I had an unplatable experience that motivated me to work hard to where I am today. I went through a lot and God has been been faithful. Women, love your children, because they are your future.
“In this our project, we would make sure Nigerian women stand tall. We are going to boost literacy among girls, boys and young women facing intersecting marginalisation across the country.
“Also, we need to eliminate poverty, especially among women in Nigeria and Africa, so that they can contribute positively to the development of their families and nations. Soon, our children would be off the streets.
“I appeal to everyone to join us in this project to provide accelerated second chance education and skills for out-of-school girls, boys and young women facing intersecting marginalisation, :” Ecton stressed.
Speaking, the Presodent of NOGALSS, Mr Emmanuel Noah, said the association have a shared mission with ‘When In Need Foundation’ on empowering lives through education, skills, development and sustainable change.
“Today marks not only the official unveiling of Princess Chetachi Ecton pet project, but a bold statement of commitment to provide a brighter future for Nigeria’s most vulnerable community.
“We express our sincere gratitude to UNESCO for agreeing to be our technical partner in the implementation of this project. We look forward to working hand-in-hand to ensure that the beneficiaries are reached,”he said.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that high point of the event was the induction of Ecton as a member of the NOGALSS Royal Council of Elders for illiterate Nigerians.
The event attracted traditional rulers from across the country and other stakeholders from the education sector.
