The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Bwari Division, FCT Command, has called on residents of the area council to collaborate with the Nigeria Police to address criminality in their vicinity.

Mrs Lizzy Nawa, Chairman of PCRC, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after a ‘sensitisation walk’ that took committee members round Bwari Area Council on Saturday.

She said the essence of the walk is to create security awareness among the residents to make them understand that there is the need for them to come out and partner with the police in the security of their environment.

“This is because Bwari is strategically located in the FCT. It is a border town and very porous. We have borders with Kaduna State, Niger and Nasarawa State; and these are routes through which criminals infiltrate into the FCT.

“So we are creating awareness that residents should be vigilant and report to the police any strange movements of persons they do not understand.

“They should be aware that it is also their residents to solve the security challenges. The police cannot do it alone. We can only help the police to help.

“We are also appealing to the government to please help Bwari Area Council by beefing up the manpower of the security operatives and provide them logistics to be able to patrol the area properly,” Nawa said.

She stressed that the Area Council had been facing security challenges like banditry, cattle rustling, kidnappings, burglary among others.

She, however, lauded the police and other security agencies for doing their best in fighting crimes in the Council.

“We give credit to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Sunday Babaji, our Area Commander, Mr Mohammed Ndagi, the FCT Chairman of PCRC, and the able DPO, Mr Charlse Onu and his gallant Officers.

“They are doing a great job in dealing with crimes; we have a calm situation now, because he takes the officers into the bush to confront and fish out the criminals.

“I believe that when residents partner and collaborate with the police, they will do a better job and get rid of criminal elements out of Bwari,” Nawa stressed.

Mr Aliyu Abubakar, a resident of Daban Avenue in Bwari Area Council, commended the PCRC for the sensitisation.

He, however, called on the Nigeria Police to imbibe the principle of confidentiality when residents release sensitive information to them.

According to him, most times, people are scared to report activities of criminals, because their identity maybe revealed to the criminals and they will now become targets of the criminals. (NAN)
