Garaku, the headquarters of Kokona LGA of Nasarawa State was on Friday agog with cultural activities as Gwandara speaking people in the State hold cultural carnival.
The event organised by Gwandara Development Educational and Cultural Association (GWADECA) Youth Wing Kokona LGA was tagged 11th Annual Cultural Carnival.

With its theme, “Peace, Unity and Progress” the cultural carnival took place at Abaga Toni’s Palace Garaku and brought together 24 different Gwandara villages within and outside the LG.
The colorful event featured display by different masquerades of different sizes, cultural and traditional dancers, magicians and magical display, traditional procession among others.
The Chairman of the occasion of former Governor of the State Sen. Umar Tanko Almakura who led prominent sons and daughters of Gwandara to the occasion spoke extensively on the significance of the carnival in bringing people together, peace and unity as well as sustainability of their identity and heritage.
He used the occasion to call on the people of the State to give their maximum support to Gov. Abdullahi Sule to succeed and cautioned people not to overheat the political atmosphere.

In his good well message, the Speaker of the State Assembly Dr. Danladi Jatau commended the organizers of the carnival and described it as special avenue for unity among the people of the area and beyond calling for its sustenance thus re-assured of his support at all times.
Other speakers at the event, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Maman, his counterpart of Information and Culture, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, former Minister of Environment, Muhammad Hassan Abdullahi, and former Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, as well as the Chairman Kokona LG among others underscored the significance of the carnival in entrenchment of peace, unity and development of the society.
The traditional ruler of the area Abaga Toni HRH Lawrence Silvester Ayih commended all those who graced the occasion for their show of love and solidarity to the Gwandara nation and wished them journey mercies to their various destinations.
