Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has tasked the newly appointed pioneer Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries of the House to enhance discipline among staff and deliver selfless services at all times.
This, he said will ensure effective productivity and enhance efficiency and effective service delivery in the legislative institution and the State at large.
The Speaker made the call while playing host to the management of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly who are on a thank you visit to the Speaker over the appointment and elevation of some senior management staff of the House as Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries on Monday in Lafia.
It may be recalled that those appointed as Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries include, Mr Ibraheem Musa as Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Legislative Services, Alh. Alkali Haruna, Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Finance and Accounts and Barr. Obiri Uji, Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Legal Services.
Others were, Hajiya Hadiza Musa Bako, Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Administration and Supplies, Mrs Rosia Kumbugu, Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Publications and Information and Mr Owens Kpadji, Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Planning, Research and Statistics.
While receiving the Assembly Management team, the Speaker said that any organization without discipline would not grow and succeed enhance the need for the Permanent Secretaries to embrace discipline and inculcate it on the staff at all times.
While congratulating them for their new appointments which he said was well deserved, the Speaker appreciated them for the support he is enjoying from them since his emergence as the Speaker of the House calling for it sustainence.
” Since my emergence as the Speaker, I have been receiving your support and cooperation, I want to thank you for that” he said.
He assured the Permanent Secretaries and staff of improved welfare for optimal productivity.
Jatau also charged them to be good ambassadors of the House at all times promising to continue to improve on their welfare.
The Speaker thanked Gov. Abdullahi Sule for the support and cooperation the House is receiving from him and assured him of effective synergy at all times.
Earlier, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, the Acting Clerk of the House appreciated the Speaker for their elevations to the ranks of Permanent Secretaries in the State.
” This meeting is to appreciate you for our elevations from the ranks of Directors to Permanent Secretaries.
” We want to assure you of our loyalty, support and cooperation to succeed” he said.
The Acting Clerk prayed God to guide, protect and bless the Speaker as he pilot the affairs of the State Assembly.
It would be reported that their appointments followed the enactment of law tagged “Nasarawa State House of Assembly Service Commission Re-enactment Law 2023 which came into operation on 20th day of August, 2023.
According to the the new law, the House shall appoint Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly pursuant to Section 12(1)
“There shall be at least (7) Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries for the House of Assembly to be appointed by the Commission, who shall be Civil Servants working in the House of Assembly not below the rank of Directors from these Designated Departments listed in the first schedule of this law”
“A Deputy Clerk/Permanent Secretary shall have the same status, remuneration and other condition of service as a Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service while in office and after retiring”
“The Clerk/Head of Legislative Services shall be appointed from among the Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries, the Clerk shall be the Head of Service for the Legislative Arm of the Government and shall have the status, remuneration and other conditions of service as the Head of Service in the State Civil Service while in office and after retiring from office “The New Law said.
