The Charge D’ Affairs of Republic of Korea to Nigeria, Mr Tak Namgung, says Korea will continue to work closely with Nigeria to create new opportunities in various sphere of advancement.
Namgung made the commitment during his remarks at the 2025 Republic of Korean National Day celebration held in the Abuja Continental Hotel at Zone 4 District of FCT, Abuja on Friday.
He explained that, Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world, but through hard work, education, and most importantly, a firm belief in democracy and freedom, It turned itself into a strong economy and a creative society.
“That belief that real progress must be built on freedom and human dignity continues to guide us today.
“It is also what inspires Korea’s key initiatives in business, technology, and culture. Whether it’s K-pop, K-food, or K-tech; they all come from the same idea that it is openness and creativity that can change our lives.
“In today’s uncertain and changing world, those values matter more than ever, and they are the reasons why Korea sees Nigeria as an important partner.
“Our two nations share a belief in potential, in people, in innovation, and in the power of working together.
“This year marks 45 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Nigeria. Over the past decade, our partnership has grown stronger and more diverse.
“This is something we deeply admire, as we know that the same passion and imagination also drove Korea’s openness.
“Looking ahead, Korea will continue to work closely with Nigeria to create new opportunities, from trade and technology to culture and education. The embassy will keep serving as a bridge for that motivation,” Namgung said.
The Envoy further stressed that, so far, it has also been good for both Nigeria and Korea, adding that, great companies such as Dell EMC and Samsung Tech Industries are helping to build luxurious industries and infrastructure.
He noted that in return, Nigerian business leaders are bringing great energy that inspires us.
“But what truly connects us are the people. More than 1,800 Nigerian students and officials have studied or trained in Korea, and they are now making a difference in their communities here at home.
“Nigeria leads Africa in creativity and innovation, from fintech to value and happiness,” Namgung said.
He encouraged guests at the event to patronise K-food, K-beauty, K-tech, and many products.
Namgung added that one of the highlights is Sophia’s Navy Nigeria Weeks, a great example of teamwork between Korean companies and local talents.
“And of course, we also have Cotra, LG, Samsung, Hyundai, and Kia showcasing their products tonight.
“As we celebrate, I hope it reminds us of the deep relationship, deep partnership between Korea and Nigeria and their people,” he said.
Also speaking, the Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, represented by Ambassador Mohamed Haidara, Deputy Director for Asia and Pacific Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated the people of Republic of Korea on the celebration of their National Day.
According to him, the National Day of Korea stands as a vibrant tribute to the founding ideals and lasting accomplishments of the people of Republic of Korea.
He further explained that the celebration provides an opportunity not only to honour Korea’s history, historical journey, but also to reaffirm the core values that have carried its growth and progress over the years.
“In commemoration of national milestones, Korea’s National Day starts as a meaningful moment of reflection. It highlights the principles of peace, cooperation, and mutual respect which have consistently underpinned diplomatic relations and engagement between our two nations.
“These values remain central to our shared commitment to fostering understanding and collaboration across various sectors.
“Nigeria and Korea have enjoyed a long-lasting and cordial relationship marked by mutual trust and a shared commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
“Over the years, our partnership has flourished across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, education, technology, and development cooperation.
“In particular, Nigeria recognises and appreciates Korea’s meaningful contributions through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA.
“Nigeria and Korea have enjoyed a long-lasting and cordial relationship marked by mutual trust and a shared commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
“Over the years, our partnership has flourished across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, education, technology, and development cooperation. In particular, Nigeria recognises and appreciates Korea’s meaningful contributions through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA,” he said
He explained that the participation of Korea in various sectors in Nigeria, ranging from business and education to cultural exchange, has played a significant role in deepening mutual understanding and cooperation.
He said the presence of this dynamic community stands as a testament to the enduring ties and fruitful partnerships that continue to flourish between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Nigeria-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, Hon Nnamdi Ezochi said the commemoration of the Republic of Korean National Day reminds us not only of Korea’s military virtues, but also of the timeless values of resilience, innovations, and national beauty that continue to inspire the world.
“Our two nations share a great relationship built on mutual respect, trade, education, and technology.
“Over the years, the Republic of Korea has emerged as a shining example of what visionary leadership, discipline, and innovations can achieve.
“From a post-war nation to one of the most advanced economies in the world, Korea currently embodies the power of determination and national purposes.
“For Nigeria, Korea represents a true friendship and developing partner,” Ezochi said.
HammerTimes Newsonline reports that the hight point of the event was musical performance by a Solo Korean Artiste, Gina Hwang, where she performed songs like Peace, The Middle, Short Film and Hwimori.
Similarly, another performance was done by a trio Korean contemporary music group by name, Sangjaru, who performed Gyeongbuk Swing, Seoul, Sangjaru Taryeong and Jisin RV to the admiration of the guests.
