Honour is said to be given to whom it is due, this perhaps explains why Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, member representing Lafia Central Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has been honored and decorated as Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) Super Champion in Nasarawa State.
The decoration by an International Non-governmental Organization, Pathfinder International Nigeria in collaboration with Community Link for Health and Family Planning Advocacy, CLHFPA was in recognition of the Lawmaker’s giant intervention in addressing the health needs of his people.
Akwashiki, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account was honored today in his office in Lafia where he appreciated the organization for finding him worthy for the honor and decoration.
Akwashiki assured them of his continued support at all times in attending to the health needs and general well-being of the people.
While emphasizing that the gesture will encourage him to do more he promised to join the sensitization campaign on HPV vaccine in order to eradicate cervical cancer and to save the lives of the people in the society.
” I want to appreciate you for decorating me as HPV Super Champion.
” Again, I want to appreciate you for finding me worthy of this decoration and I want to assure you of my support at all times.
” As we are all aware that health is wealth, I will join you in the street to sensitize the people on HPV vaccine.
” This is to save the lives of our people,” he said.
Hon. Akwashiki disclosed that he is sponsoring a bill for the establishment of General Hospital, Lafia to boost the health of the people.
He said that he has done so much for the people of Lafia Central Constituency through sponsorship of free medical outreach among other interventions and promised to continued to do more for the overall development of the constituency.
Akwashiki solicited for continued prayers and support to enable him succeed.
Earlier, Fatima Maha, Nasarawa State Coordinator of Pathfinder International said that the visit was to decorate Hon. Akwashiki as Super Champion of HPV.
” We are here to decorate you as HPV Super Champion due to your commitment to health issues of your people and others .
“As HPV vaccine is safe and will save the lives of the people” she said.
She sought his collaboration and support to enable them succeed in their campaign on HPV among others.
The State Coordinator said that the vaccine, when received, protects against cervical, throat, and all forms of Human Papilloma Virus-related cancers.
Also speaking, Mrs Mary Ashenanye, Chairperson, Community Link for Health and Family Planning Advocacy, has appreciated Hon. Akwashiki for his good health policy towards improving on the lives of his people.
She also urged Akwashiki to synergy and collaborate with them to educate and sensitize the people on HPV vaccine among other health related issues.
