The Prpgressive Youth for Greater Nigeria (PYGN), has reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising nationwide youth support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The National Coordinator of the group, Babatunde Awojobi stated this during a courtesy visit to the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Awojobi said the visit was aimed at appreciating the efforts of the TSG Director-General, Dr Tanko Yakasai, whom he commended for his hard work and strategic leadership in sustaining political mobilisation for the administration and its 2027 prospects.
He noted that PYGN’s mission was centred on ensuring electoral victory for the APC in the next polls.
“The main reason that brought us here is that we are after achieving success come 2027, and we are assured that success we shall get,” he said.
Addressing Nigerian youths, the coordinator urged them to align with the APC, asserting that the party offered the most viable platform for national development.
“My message to the youths in the political terrain is that the only home for any youth in Nigeria is to support the APC.
“We have the best president Nigeria has ever produced in President Bola Tinubu,” Awojobi declared.
He called on young people across the country to join the APC and support PYGN’s mobilisation efforts as part of what he described as a nationwide progressive movement.
In his response, the Director-General, TSG, Dr Tanko Yakasa, praised the groups’ energy, saying their grassroots presence strengthened ongoing political mobilisation for President Tinubu’s 2027 bid.
“I feel excited because I know I’m not working alone. When you’re a commander without ground troops, you cannot succeed.
“When youth are progressive, nothing can stop them. Seeing these generals on the ground gives me confidence. I can even go home and sleep,”he said.
He also commended the president for the establishment of Development Commissions across all regions of the country, aimed at decentralising development and accelerating the growth of underserved areas.
Yakasai, speaking on the rationale behind the new model, explained that Nigeria now have six functional regional development commissions, alongside the long-existing Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He said the goal was to take development to the grassroots.
According to him, equal allocation of resources across the federation by ministries often fails to address long-standing disparities.
He noted that allocating the same amount to Lagos and Kano, despite their different levels of development, cannot ensure progress at the same pace.
“If Lagos has gone far ahead of Kano in education and you give both N10, how many years will it take Kano to catch up? Development Commissions solve this,” he said.
He explained that with the regional commissions, each region can channel funds into sectors where they lag behind.
“If the South-West wants to build a rail system connecting all their states, it is their regional priority.
“If the North-West prefers to invest heavily in education, they can focus their entire allocation there. No region can complain because each has its own commission,” he said
He added that such targeted development was politically difficult to achieve through federal ministries like Transport, Education or Health, which must distribute funds based on equity rather than need.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for fostering inclusivity since assuming office in 2023, noting that political tensions around ethnicity, religion and regional loyalty have eased significantly.
“The President said whether you voted for me or not, come and join my government. Today, Dave Umahi is doing well as Minister of Works.
“People from opposition parties like Nyesom Wike are also doing well. The cry of marginalisation is over.”
He added that the growing number of opposition governors joining or aligning with the ruling APC was proof of renewed national unity.
