Mr Erasmus Ekpang, Cross River Commissioner for Information, says Gov. Bassey Otu has reinvented governance through his people oriented projects within one year in office.
The Commissioner said the governor’s urban renewal drive in Calabar and other parts of the state are unprecedented in the history of Cross River.
The Commissioner in an interview on Sunday in Calabar noted that “things could only get better.”
Ekpang particularly expressed the governor’s desire to return the state capital to its pride of place as the cleanest city in the country.
According to him, to achieve this, the roads across the city were been rehabilitated or reconstructed, lawns were been maintained, waste disposal system enhanced, and the streets and traffic lights brought back.
“This is indeed the season of sweetness because this is a people first government that is committed to doing everything for the sake of people.
“We must make people feel the impact of good governance.We are very focused to deliver on them.
“Remember, we are known as the Tourism Capital of Nigeria and Governor has work to return Calabar to that status.
“No more potholes, Street lights are back, traffic lights are back, Beautification of roundabouts are on-going, Bus Stops have been renovated, amongst others.
“This is not only happening in Calabar, Ogoja and Ikom as well as other parts of the state are receiving same attention,” he stated.
Ekpang noted that no fewer than 52 roads running into over 200 kilometres were either been contracted and rehabilitated across the state.
He also said other infrastructure such as the Governor’s Office, State Library Complex, Deputy Governor lodge, Speaker and Deputy Speaker Lodges, some dilapidated Courts, and others were being rehabilitated.
Ekpang said the governor is not oblivious of the need to create employment opportunities for the people hence, the cottage industries established by the immediate past administration would be reactivated.
“Our administration is very focused on people and due to our poor finances, we may not be able to carry everything at the same time.
“We would work in phases.
Industrialisation is a key component of Governor Otu agenda.
“All these industries started by past government are being looked into to ensure that there are up and running soonest,” he said.
