The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Health Secretariat has collaborated with the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to register vulnerable Nigerians for a special health programme titled “Know your numbers, control them.”

Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), announced the partnership on Thursday at a medical outreach in Gosa community, FCT, organised by NMA.

Fasawe said the initiative aimed to educate Nigerians on managing their blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and preventing non-communicable diseases

She said the programme sought to register 10 million vulnerable Nigerians, providing them with free medication and health insurance.

Fasawe emphasised the importance of taking health seriously, as unknown health issues caould be life-threatening.

She noted that many young Nigerians were dying from non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes.

Also, Dr Emeka Ayogu, NMA FCT Chairman, stated that the medical outreach complemented the 2024 Physicians’ Week.

He appealed for government support in providing more hospitals, training health workers, and equipping hospitals.

Grace Anania, a beneficiary, thanked NMA for the outreach and urged the government to provide ambulances in community healthcare centres for emergency cases. (NAN)
