An Iyaganku  Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday ordered the remand of one Suleiman Usman , 25, accused of raping a teenager with special needs.

The Magistrate, Mrs Serifat Adesina, who did not take the plea of the defendant due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered his remand at the Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo town.

Adesina said that Usman should be kept in custody pending the receipt of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until June 16, for mention.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sikiru Ibrahim, said that Usman on April 25, at noon on Akinpade Street, Akobo, Ibadan, allegedly had carnal knowledge of an 18-year-old girl with special needs (name with held) without her consent.

“The girl, with special needs was on her way to church when the defendant allegedly waylaid her and raped her,” he said.

According to Ibrahim, the offence is contrary to section 357 and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State (2000).
