The Society of Cosmetic Scientists Nigeria (NICOS) plans to establish a specialised training school to empower Nigerians to produce high-quality cosmetic products.

Mrs Grace Abamba, Founding President of NICOS, made this known during a two-day workshop and exhibition for local producers of natural cosmetics in Abuja on Wednesday.

Abamba emphasised the immense potential of Nigeria’s cosmetic industry, currently valued at 1.4 billion dollars, to boost the country’s economy.

She stated that with proper structures in place, the industry could generate over 30 billion dollars annually.7

“The proposed training school aims to drive innovation, promote high-quality cosmetic production, and position Nigeria as a significant player in the global cosmetic industry.

“The school will provide scientific knowledge and skills to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the cosmetics sector, helping local producers enhance product packaging, ingredient sourcing, and manufacturing processes.”

Abamba stressed that achieving a globally competitive Nigerian cosmetic industry would require collaborative efforts with government regulatory bodies and other stakeholders.

Mrs Nonye Ayeni, Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), reiterated the importance of promoting locally made products and encouraged entrepreneurs to work towards doubling exports.
