The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu (NAM), has urged 3,439 newly trained recruits of the Nigerian Army to uphold the virtues of loyalty, discipline, and professionalism as they formally join the service.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the recruits, members of the 89 Regular Intake, completed six months of intensive training at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria and were presented during a Passing Out Parade on Saturday.
The parade, described by the COAS as a “testament to your dedication and perseverance,” showcased the skills, discipline, and esprit de corps instilled in the recruits.
This is contained in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, on Saturday in Abuja.
Addressing the parade as the Special Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, Shaibu said the successful training reflected hard work, dedication, and discipline.
He said the new recruits had been moulded to meet the highest standards of soldiering, saying they were now entrusted with the sacred duty of safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation.
According to him, the recruits are vital to national security as the Nigerian army continues to confront emerging domestic and transnational threats.
“Your induction today not only boosts our manpower but reinforces our commitment to the safety and security of every Nigerian.
“May your careers be distinguished, your service exemplary, and your deployment safe and fulfilling,” he said.
The COAS commended Depot Nigerian Army for its historic role in producing professional soldiers since 1924, assuring that the institution would continue to receive support in logistics, training infrastructure, and personnel welfare.
He urged the recruits to respect human rights, maintain integrity, and honour the Oath of Allegiance they took.
Shaibu also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmad Bamalli, Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and security agencies for their support.
He commended the Commandant, instructors, and staff for preparing the new generation of soldiers. (NAN)
