The Chairman of Barewa Old Boys Association (BOBA), Abuja Branch, Mr Mashood Yusuf has called for purposeful leadership, collaboration and trust to move the country forward.
Yusuf made the called at the Association’s Leadership and Legacy Reunion/Award Ceremony on Saturday in Abuja.
According to him, leadership is not all about titles orposition but about influence, services and impact.
“As leaders, we are called to lead, inspire, motivate and empower others.
“We must lead with purpose, integrity and compassion, leaving a lasting legacy that transient our own time, leaving out footprint in the sands of time.
“We must foster a culture of collaboration, mutual respect and trust, recognising that our collective strength lies in our diversity and shared purpose,” Yusuf said.
He used the opportunity to appreciate the past leaders of the Abuja branch for their services, commitment and loyalty to the association.
“Today, we honour their legacies and commitment, and as we look into the further, we are reminded that legacy is not just about what we achieved, but the impact of footprints in the sands of time.
“Lets us strive to leave a legacy of excellent leadership, service and positive change, inspiring generations of old boys to join the association,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occassion, Mr Abdullahi Bukar, said Barewa College Zaire is a school that has produced Nigerians with discipline and leadership capacity.
“As we look back on our journey, we are reminded of the values the school instilled in us; excellence, discipline, character, value and comradarie.
“These values have shaped us into the individuals that we are today and we are proud to call Barewa College our Alma Mata,” Abdullahi said
Meanwhile, the BOBA National President, retired Gen. Alwali Kazir in his address said the association’s network and strengthen lies in the diversity of members in the various profession and backgrounds.
Kazir commended the Abuja branch for providing leadership that the national body is proud off.
Also, the guest lecturer, Mr Moshood Lawal who spoke on ‘legacy and leadership: shaping the future through influence and impact’, explained the concept and various models of legacy and leadership.
“Barewa College has produced about five heads of governments, 29 heads of subnational governments, 59 heads of parasitatal agencies, four heads of judiciary and 16 heads of various tertiary institutions.
“The school also have churned out 23 prominent leaders of traditiinal institutions, three heads of banking policy institutions, 16 heads of military and paramilitary institutions and so many others.
“Barewa College should be revitalise as leadership incubator; there the need to integrate technology, and make it a global brand and inspire new generation to lead with impact.
“With century of producing scholars/leaders that have in different time shaped the future of Nigeria and Africa. It is time build on the positive legacy of these leaders,” Lawal said.
