A Magistrate court 1 in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man Nwigbakpo Chukwuma in correctional centre for alleged attempt to kill one Nnenna Nwogbaga, ‘f’.
Chukwuma, who is facing a count charge of murder, has pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Okon, told the court on Thursday, that the accused committed the offence on May 6 at Ede-Echara village, Abakaliki local government area.
Okon explained that the Defendant unlawfully attempted to kill Nwogbaga by given her a matchete cut on the head and left hand, which caused her harm,
He noted that the offence is punishable under the Criminal Code, Cap. of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.
Defence Counsel, Christ Igboke, made application for the bail and assured the court that the accused would be cautioned.
“My Lord, I would want a bail for my client and he will be cautioned. The man, in question, is the breadwinner of the family,” he pleaded.
The trial judge, Ojemba Isu-Oko, declined to grant the defendants bail for lack of jurisdiction, and adjourned the matter until July 7.
