A 34-year-old plumber, Godwin Daniel, on Thursday appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his customer’s Tecno Camon 19 phone valued at N215,000.
Daniel, of Sabo Tasha Kaduna, is standing trial for breach of trust and theft.
The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that Sarah Abashe of Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna, had reported the matter at the Sabo Tasha Police Station on June 10.
According to Leo, the complainant had called the defendant to do some plumbing work in her house when he stole the phone.
He said that the complainant was charging her phone and got carried away with other house chores and later noticed that her phone was missing when she wanted to transfer money to the defendant.
The prosecutor added that the defendant was arrested when the complainant’s number was called and the phone rang from the defendant’s pocket.
Leo said the offences contravened sections 97 and 217 of the Penal Code, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleased not guilty When the charges were read to him.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the matter until July 3, for hearing.
