A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Friday, ordered the remand of a 19-year-old man, Luke Sokoti, who allegedly defiled an eight year-old girl in a correctional centre pending legal advice.

The defendant was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge, bordering on defilement, penetration and unlawful touch.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, who did not take Sokoti’s plea, ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send same to the office of Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Adekomaiya, who frowned at the high rate of rape of minors, adjourned the case till Aug. 30 for hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecuting Officer, ASP Ikem Uko, told the court that Sokoti committed the offences on May 20 at No. 24, Ahovikoh Quarters, Badagry, Lagos.

Uko said that the defendant lured the girl into his room and defiled her.

He said that the defendant penetrated the private part of the girl with his manhood.

The prosecutor said that the defendant also unlawfully touched and removed the girl’s pant.

The offences, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 137, 261 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
