The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Nasarawa State branch, has inaugurated new executive members to pilot its affairs for the next three years.
The National President of the Association, Prof. James Garba Damen, inaugurated the new officials in Akwanga after the state branch election on Saturday.
Damen, who represented by Dr Ironkwe Okechukwu, AMLSN FCT branch Chairman, while swearing in the new officials, enjoined them to uphold and defend the constitution and rules of the association.
The president also urged them and other members of the association to adhere strictly to their professional ethics in the interest of the health of the people.
Earlier, MLS Zakou Amadou, the Chairman of Electoral Committee, while announcing the result, declared Mr Amos John who polled 62 votes as chairman after defeating Onyinye Mbamalu with 39 votes.
According to him, 101 accredited voters were recorded for the poll.
“For the office of Secretary, MLS Stephen Makpa got 67 votes to defeat MLS Ajegena Christopher, who scored 33 votes, and one invalid vote.
“Four offices were unopposed but votes were cast wherein MLS Allu Abalaku – Vice Chairman, got 84 votes; MLS Celestina Osanga – Financial Secretary, got 89 votes; MLS Solomon Lohfe Sale – Treasurer, got 87 votes; and MLS Ismaila Musa Abioseabo – PRO, got 94 votes,” he said.
The chairman thanked the outgone leadership and other members of the association for giving them maximum cooperation to conduct free, fair and peaceful election.
On his part, the former Chairman of the association, MLS Kyari Caleb, said the association had achieved a lot in bettering the welfare and wellbeing of its members, as well as health status of the people of the state during his tenure.
While congratulating the new officials, Caleb charged them to carry every member along and enjoined them to live above board while discharging their duties.
He assured the successors of his readiness to support them and advise them appropriately where the need arises in the best interest of the association.
Responding, the new Chaiman of the AMLNS, MLS Amos Bogwilas John appreciated members of the association for their election.
John pledged to protect the interest of members as well as initiate good policies and programmes that would improve on their profession and standard of living.
He assured of his commitment to providing an inclusive leadership for the overall development of the association.
The new chairman solicited the support of all members to enable them succeed. (NAN)
