Speaker of the  Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alh. Ibrahim Abdullahi, has harped on the need to keep historical records for the benefit of future generations.

The speaker stated this on Wednesday Lafia at unveiling and launching of the maiden 218 page compendium of the Assembly, which chronicled its journey since inception in 1999.

He said that the publication titled “Nasarawa State House of Assembly Compendium 2022: The Journey So Far, 1999-2022” was a historical record of immense legislative values.

” This publication sets out to give a synopsis of the major activities, events and people that left indelible impacts on the journey of the state Assembly since its inception in 1999,” he said.

The speaker said that the idea of the compendium was borne out his obligation knowing that he owed it to posterity as a leader of the assembly.

He also said that the compendium was his modest contribution and  attempt to tell the story of the institution as an organ of government.

” This effort is to serve as reference materials and working document not only for the House but for the State and the Country as well.

“So, in a nutshell, both the present and future generations as well as posterity will drink from the fountain of knowledge contained in this important compendium,” he added.

Abdullahi commended his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, and his team that made the compendium a reality.

“I will enjoin the team that will come after us to maintain the records and to keep updating it, every tenure, or at most, the beginning of a new legislature.

He also appreciated and acknowledged the great efforts of the past speakers and members of the assembly.

Abdullahi called on the people of the state to continue to pray for, and support the Gov. Abdullahi Sule government to move the state forward.

He restated the assembly’s continuous support to Gov Sule, the  State and Federal Government inorder to attain the lofty goals of the nation’s  founding fathers.

In his remarks, Gov. Sule commended the speaker and the assembly for coming up with the idea of the compendium.

Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, noted the importance of the compendium  as a historical property and source of inspiration for future generation.

” I want to congratulate the speaker, principal officers and honourable members for putting these material together, ” he said.

He also appreciated the assembly for giving his administration all the necessary support and cooperation to succeed and called for its sustenance.

The governor attributed his administration’s achievements so far in the state to cordial working relationship and support from the assembly.

Also speaking, Dr Musa Ahmed- Mohammed, former Speaker of the third and fourth Assembly, lauded the incumbent Speaker for the compendium to serve as reference materials in the state.

He also appreciated both the executive and legislative arm for maintaining good and cordial working relationship in the interest of the people of the state.

Ahmed – Mohammed called for the sustenance of the healthy working relationship between the executive and legislature in the state for more dividend of democracy to the people.

In their goodwill messages, the Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage represented by the ‘Odyong Nyankpa’ Mr Joel Aninge,  Chief Judge of the state, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, Mr Abdulhamid Kwarra, former Majority Leader of the House, as well as the state APC Chairman Dr John Mamman, all commended the speaker for the compendium.
