The National Association of Science Students (NASS), National Body, has called on the Federal Government to invest in science based project for the Economic development of the country. 

Com. Rafael Akintomide, president elect of the association made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the National Science Symposium and Inaugural Ceremony of the association at the University of Abuja. 

Akintomide said that the symposium titled “Science A Tool For Sustainable Growth and Development in Nigeria” is aimed at integrating research and development in the country. 

According to him, adequate funding of the Science sector would encourage wealth creation and improve economic growth and transformation of the nation. 

“Despite the challenges the country is facing, if science is given adequate attention, Nigeria will compete with world giants for economic growth and development. 

“NASS presently is in its reviving state and need immediate intervention from the Federal, States Governments and Science organisations. 

“I am using this medium to seek support and intervention from the government and also the associations arm are broadly open for collaborations with NGO’s and other cooperate organisations,” he said.

The Dean Faculty of Science, University of Abuja Prof. Oluwabunmi Agarr, on her part said sience holds the key to national development and every institution that intends to grow positively should invest and empower science and technology.

Dr Nasir Naim, Special Assistant to the Director General Research and Capacity Building, National Assembly uurged the inaugural members to make positive impact by using science to address global challenges and societal needs. (NAN)
