The Kogi Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned motorists in the state against impatient and reckless driving following anticipated increase in traffic volume during the Eid-el-Maluud celebration.
The Sector Commander, Solomon Agure, gave the caution in a statement signed by RC Ayodeji Oluwadunsin, Public Education Officer of the command, on Sunday in Lokoja.
Agure said the call had become imperative as Nigerians would want to seize the opportunity of the Eid-el-Maluud celebration to travel to see their families and friends, thereby increasing the volume of traffic on highways across the state.
According to reports the Federal Government had declared Tuesday Oct.19 as Public Holiday for the observation of this year’s Eid-el-Maluud celebration to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The sector commander expressed readiness of the Corps to ensure free flow of traffic devoid of stress for all road users during and after the Eid-el-Maluud holidays.
He attributed some of the carnage on the roads to lack of patience, improper planning and motorists’ worrisome behaviours, describing impatience as a very dangerous anti-safety attitudinal behaviour.
He also urged motorists to guard against situations that could subject to short temperament and apprehension under little delay.
Agure added that they should avoid disobedience to traffic rules and regulations, excessive speeding, route violation and speed compete supremacy.
He also cautioned motorists against wrongful overtaking, use of phone while driving, bad judgement and traffic infractions but should have consideration for other road users to ensure lane discipline, among others.
He warned against violations of traffic rules and reckless driving, saying violators would be subjected to mental evaluation after which he/she would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The sector commander called on road users to give high premium to safety and respect the rule of law, urging them to be safety conscious to maintain a safer motoring environment during the ember months and beyond.
