Mr Emmanuel Leweh, the Executive Chairman, Akwanga Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, has advised the new council officials to shun ethno-religious and political differences.

This, he said, was in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the area.

Leweh gave the task while swearing-in the Deputy Chairman of the council, Malam Safiyanu Isa, and 11 councillors in Akwanga on Tuesday in Akwanga.

The council boss assured the people of the area of his readiness to initiate good policies and programmes that would affect their lives positively.

“I call on you to shun ethno-religious and political differences for development to thrive in the area.

“I urge you to discharge your duties without fear or favour in the interest of peace and for the overall development of our council.

“We will work together to ensure the development of our area,” he said.

Leweh also urged the councillors to always work closely with their people for the overall development of their respective wards.

Besides, he ordered directors and staff of the council not to grant audience to journalists without clearance from him.

He called on the people of the area and the state at large to continue to support Gov. Abdullahi Sule to succeed beyond 2023.

“This is also to enable us enjoy more dividends of democracy,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Dameshi Luka, a former deputy governor of the state; Mr Nehemiah Dandaura, the Deputy Speaker of the state legislature; and Mr Yakubu Kwanta, the Special Adviser to Gov. Sule on Youth and Sports Development, congratulated the councillors for their successful inauguration and assumption of duty.

They however urged them to key into the APC manifestoe, policies and programmes for the developmet of their respective wards and the state at large.

Responding, the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Mr Safiyanu Isa, promised to discharge their duties without fear or favour.

They assured of their readiness to carry their people along while discharging their duties. (NAN)
