The Nasarawa State Urban Development Board ( NUDB) in conjunction with the Nasarawa State Waste Management Bureau, has commenced operation street clearing in Karu local government area.

This is to decongest Mararaba/ Abuja high way and for easy movement of vehicles.

The Managing Director of the board, Engr. Mohammed Wada Yahaya who led the taskforce team on road clearance to Mararaba Gurku, said the exercise was to ensure that vehicles are packed at the designated places in the area.

Wada urged motorists and traders to adhere strictly to the new method of decongesting the road, adding that the exercise was not to witchunt anybody but to allow the right thing to be done for the interest of all.

He lamented that Government spent so much money to construct Muhammadu Bihari International market Karu, but wondered why traders refused to occupy the market.

Corroborating the idea of the managing director of the board, the Karu Zonal Manager of NUDB, Ahmed Ibrahim, said the taskforce has engaged the market leaders as members of the team to ensure the success of the exercise.

He said that the exercise was to ensure free flow of vehicles and people in the interest of development.

Some traders interviewed, Godwin Ushie and a female trader who does not want her name mentioned, supported the idea but however apppealed to the government to provide an enabling environment for them to carry out their businesses, saying that it is the only way for them to survive.

It was observed that the exercise was peaceful despite some traders were asked to pack their goods along the major road for easier movement of people and vehicles.

Mararaba is said to be most populous town in Karu local government area considering it’s proximity with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where traffic is always experienced which is usually attributed to street trading thereby creating hardship to residents and the passersby.
