Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Achimugu, Founder and President of the Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF), has empowered over 100 widows through the Foundation’s Food Bank Initiative and provided food for more than 1,000 indigent residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mark the end of Ramadan and celebrate Sallah at Sauka Village.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Achimugu stated that the Foundation used the occasion to spread joy during the Sallah celebration by empowering widows and providing food items to children and other underserved groups.
She called on corporate organisations and governments at all levels to implement policies that will ensure food security for vulnerable Nigerians, noting that this is vital for national development.
According to her, “The Sallah season is about sharing joy, making lives better, and emulating the Holy Prophet. Today, we have empowered over 100 widows and provided food for over 1,000 indigent persons in Sauka Village to celebrate Sallah.”
In her remarks, the Programme Director of the Foundation, Mrs. Kiema Ogunlana, emphasised the importance of giving back to society as a pathway to national development.
She also advocated for gender inclusion, stressing the need to ensure that all people, regardless of gender, are treated fairly, respected, and given equal opportunities to participate and benefit in society.
“There is a need to recognise that people of different genders face different challenges. We must remove discrimination and create inclusive environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard,.
“Equal access to jobs and promotion, fair pay, protection from harassment, involving both men and women in decision-making, supporting people without bias based on gender.
“In simple terms, it all about making sure no one is left out or treated unfairly because of their gender.
she said.
Ogunlana added that for nearly twelve years, the Sam Empowerment Foundation has consistently gone beyond programmes to impact lives, reaching people in IDP camps, rural communities, hospitals, classrooms, and vulnerable homes where hope was once limited.
She encouraged other Nigerians and corporate organisations to emulate the Foundation’s philanthropic efforts, noting that collective action is key to addressing societal challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Musa Yahaya expressed gratitude to Dr. Achimugu for her generosity and called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate her kind gesture.
