The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has restated its commitment to building a resilient, flexible and future -ready grid capable of powering the country’s sustainable economic.
Mr Abdul Mohammed, Managing Director (MD)of NISO made this known in his end of year message to staff and other stakeholders in the power sector.
He said ”NISO remains firmly committed to building a resilient, flexible, and future-ready grid—one capable of supporting increased renewable energy integration, driving industrial growth, and powering Nigeria’s economy.
”NISO is on the move and this journey must be taken together.
”We will continue to build an organisation that values its people, delivers on its mandate, and serves the national interest.
”Together, we are building a stronger, smarter, and more reliable electricity sector,”he said.
According to him, NISO has taken the first meaningful steps in operationalising its mandate.
”We recorded early progress in grid operations, strengthened regional cooperation, and began deploying modern tools to improve system visibility and coordination.
”These early gains, achieved within a start-up environment, reflect our commitment to excellence and service.
”Beyond technical progress, management has remained mindful that people are the backbone of this institution,”he said.
Mohammed said that during the year, priority was given to staff development, welfare, and industrial harmony.
He said that progress was recorded in training, promotions, incentives, welfare support, and constructive engagement with labour.
He added that this reflected the organisation commitment to fairness, transparency, and mutual respect.
Mohammed said that since the establishment of NISO in April, this message was a moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment.
”Building a new national institution is never easy. It requires patience, adaptability, and a shared sense of purpose.
”Within a short period, the staff of NISO have demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and dedication while navigating change and uncertainty.
” I sincerely thank the Ministry of Power, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) , Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), NISO Board of Directors, and every member of staff of the organisation for the contributions to laying the foundation of NISO,”he said.
The MD assured that the management of NISO values the patience and cooperation shown by staff during this formative phase.
”Where challenges exist, we remain committed to open dialogue, continuous improvement, and shared problem-solving.
”As we look ahead to 2026, our focus will be on consolidating what we have started—strengthening operations, building capacity, improving systems, and creating an enabling work environment.
”Where staff can grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to national development.
”Colleagues, NISO is not just an institution; it is a collective endeavour. The journey ahead will require unity, discipline, and trust”he said.
Mohammed said that he was confident that working together they would continue to build an organisation to be proud of.
”To our industry partners, stakeholders, and the Nigerian people, this year has been one of purposeful transition—one in which, through collective effort, collaboration, coordination and professionalism made it a year of remarkable transformation.
”Several operational milestones deserve special recognition, as they directly contribute to system stability and sector credibility.
”Foremost among these was the historic regional grid synchronisation under the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
According to him, for the first time, Nigeria’s power system successfully operated in real-time synchronisation with the broader West African regional grid for four uninterrupted hours.
He said that this landmark achievement unlocked new opportunities for regional power trade, enhances collective energy security, and positions Nigeria at the centre of regional electricity cooperation.
The MD said that NISO also recorded notable improvements in system operations, expanded grid visibility through digital initiatives, and advanced planning processes that supported long-term national development.
”Together, these efforts are strengthening the resilience of the grid and reinforcing confidence in NISO’s mandate.
”Furthermore, despite operating under familiar system constraints, the grid experienced a noticeable improvement in stability during the year.
”Compared to previous years, disturbances were fewer and more effectively managed,”he said.
Mohammed said that the improvement was a direct reflection of the professionalism, vigilance, and commitment of NISO’s system operators, improved coordination with market participants and stakeholders.
”As a new institution, NISO recognises that sustainable success depends on strong partnerships”he said.
Mohammed therefore extended appreciation to government authorities, sector institutions, market participants, development partners, and all stakeholders for their cooperation and support during this formative year.
