The Director-General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has reeled out the achievements of security agencies and other regulatory organisations recorded under one month in the country.
Issa-Onilu in a month jointly security media briefing on Monday in Abuja described the achievements of the security, paramilitary and regulatory agencies as remarkable and worthy of commendation.
According to him, the Nigeria’s security and regulatory agencies sustained a high operational tempo in August 2025.
“The Army executed 261 operstions; Police made 1,950 arrests and rescued 141 victims; National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 66,255.81kg of narcotics and deployed 48 new vehicles to the field.
“Also, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured 558 convictions with over N21.06 billion recovered.
“The National Agency for Food Drug and Administration (NAFDAC) seized 17 containers of falsified and unsafe goods,” he said.
According to the NOA boss, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has strengthened border control with 10, 803 visas approved, adding that targeted denials and trafficking victims interceptions were recorded.
“These results reflect positive outcomes from tighter inter-agency coordination, stronger intelligence-led action, and expanded public-facing communication to counter misinformation in line with presidential directive to keep the country safe,” Issa-Onilu said.
He added that NOA had activated its offices in the 36 states, FCT, Zonal Offices and 774 local government offices to go into communities through press conferences, road shows, rallies, advocacy visits, media engagements, worship places and palaces.
He further noted that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) commissioned two new Area Commands and upgraded five stations in Yalwata, Benue to boost reach and response.
“More success recorded within one month include coordinated military pressure that is shrinking terror room for maneuver, and our troops are degrading terror logistics and protecting communities and commuters.
“I call upon the public to continue to report suspicious movements, especially in transit corridors, to hotlines and to share verified updates from official channels,” Issa-Onilu said.
He further explained that the security agencies have seized ammo, grenades, fabricated rifles and made several arrests in Zamfara and other parts of the country.
The NOA boss noted that intelligence fusion was breaking supply chains and leadership nodes of criminal groups in the country.
He called on the media and public to follow verified handles of security agencies and NOA, attend townhall meetings organised by NOA and avoid sharing unverified alert that fuels panic.
“I also want to emphasise that illicit drug seizures are up and recovery pathways for victims are open; this is how communities get healthier and safer. I call on stakeholders to promote war against drug abuse in schools, markets, parks and other areas.
“I also want to call on the public to do their part by ensuring that they buy registered products only; check NAFDAC numbers and report suspicious warehouses.
“The public should continue to use whistleblowing channels; Ministries, Departments and Agencies should empower Anti-corruption Units, schools should join Citizens Values Brigades being established by NOA.
“Let it be known that every rescued victim is a life put back on track, and smuggler put out of the communities. Members are called upon to report smuggling recruiters,” Issa-Onilu advocated.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event was attended by officials of NIS, NPF, Nigeria Army, NDLEA, NAFDAC, Defence Headquarters, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Correctional Services.
Others were officials of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, National Emergency Management Agency among others. (NAN)
