The Police Council has confirmed Mr Usman Alkali Baba as Nigeria’s substantive InspectorGeneral of Police (1GP).

Presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Council took the decision during its meeting held in Abuja on Friday.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, who confirmed the development to State House correspondents at the end of Friday’s meeting, said the decision was reached unanimously by the Council.

The 58-year-old newly confirmed Police Chief hails from Geidam in Yobe State and was born on March 1,1963.

He was appointed on April 6, 2021 by President Buhari as acting IGP to replace Mohammed Adamu.

Adamu was effectively meant to retire from Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in February 2021 but the Presidency extended his tenure by three months, citing the so-called need to properlysearch for a competent replacement.
