Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to put more effort to assess more fund from the 2024 budget in order to implement more projects and activities that would have direct bearing on the lives of the youths and other people of the State.
The House, however expressed happiness with the outing of Nasarawa United Football Club and the State Amazons so far calling for more breakthrough.
Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, Hon Muhammad Garba Isimbabi made the call when the Committee hosted the management of the ministry on their 2024 budget performance at the assembly complex today in Lafia.
The lawmaker appreciated the ministry for living up to date in the payment of players entitlements and urged them to sustain the effort so as to encourage the players to put their best in their future matches.
Hon Isimbabi assured of the Committee’s continuous support to the ministry to assess more fund from the 2024 budget to execute capital projects and other activities aimed at developing sports and other youths activities across the State.
” As a committee we are ready to give you all the necessary support and encouragement in order to succeed in the implementation of projects and programs that will ensure promotion of sporting activities in the state
“Sports provides opportunity for youth engagement, it unite people of different communities and backgrounds, it also generate revenue for the state
“Therefore attention must be given to the sports and youth sector so as to tackle youth restiveness and promote peace” he said
The lawmaker said that the performance of the ministry in projects execution and revenue generation was not encouraging and urged it to do more in that direction.
Earlier, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Hon Jafaru Ango appreciated the committee and the assembly for its support and solicited for more so that it can achieve the mandate of the ministry.
He also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts in promoting youth development in the State.
The Commissioner assured of the ministry’s commitment to initiate good policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on the lives of the youths and other people of the State promising to improve in areas of observations made by the Committee.
