A firm, NesGas ,has inaugurated a 50,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and propane depot to aid in bridging ongoing energy demands.
The Managing Director and CEO, NesGas, Mr Tunde Banjo , made this known in a statement after the ground breaking ceremony of 50,000 metric tonnes of LPG Depot Project at the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone.
Banjo during the overview of the project, said the project presented the dawn of a new chapter in Africa’s energy story.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, commended NesGas for the initiative adding that the private sector’s dedication to invest in infrastructure to facilitate storage, delivery and consumption of green energy was key to carrying out it’s initiative for cleaner sustainable energy sources.
According to Ekpo,Gas as a cleaner energy source plays a pivotal role in meeting the energy demand of the country while also mitigating the environmental impact associated with traditional fossil fuels.
He described the NesGas 50,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and propane depot as loaded with prospects of bridging ongoing energy demands.
He said the depot would aid in mitigating environmental impact associated with traditional fossil fuels, creating massive employment opportunities for citizens while also boosting the overall growth of the economy.
” Government recognises the pivotal role of the private sector in driving the nation’s socio economic agenda and it is committed to providing the necessary support to facilitate such initiatives.
“The private sector’s dedication to investing in infrastructure that will facilitate the storage, delivery, and consumption of clean energy is demonstrated by NesGas’s development of this 50,000 metric tons LPG and propane depot.
” In addition to the immediate environmental advantages, the construction of this depot promises to boost the local economy and provide jobs across the country. Employment opportunities will be created along the entire value chain, from construction to operation, promoting skill development and economic inclusion.”
Ekpo assured investors in the gas sector that the Federal Government was working to establish laws and regulations that would guarantee transparency, more funding, and provide an even playing field for all players in the market.
Also speaking ,Mr Emmanuel Uwandu, Managing Director and CEO of GAS360, the technical company in the partnership, said the project has multiple potential and the ability to provide about three million small businesses.
“The NesGas team should be incorporated into the economic planning of Nigeria, we will ensure even those in the creeks get clean cooking gas.”
Other stakeholders in the industry at a panel discussion said there should be massive production of Gas for the good of the people and the environment.
They added that there was need for regulations to be put in place to ensure that standards were met.
