The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), on Monday said a truck driver died in a multiple accident around Ojuelegba area of the state.

The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement, said that the driver, an adult male, got trapped on impact of the multiple collision and died in the process.

He said the truck assistant escaped unscathed.

“At 01: 37hrs, the LASEMA Response Team encountered a multiple accident which involved three articulated trucks on Ojuelegba bridge, while returning from a recovery operation in Ijora axis of Lagos.

“The multiple accident involved two Shacman F2000 trucks, registration numbers unknown, laden with sand and a Daf truck, registration number EKY 93 YC laden with chicken feed.

“The lead truck reportedly suffered mechanical error on motion, while driving in a convoy which resulted in a sudden halt of movement.

“This led to a crash into it from the rear by the second truck and the Daf truck, while on speed,” he said.

He said the dead body of the trapped DAF truck driver had been extricated.

“The corpse has been handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue and further processing.

“All affected vehicles have been recovered off the bridge to LASTMA office, Iponri, Surulere.

“The Ojuelegba bridge has been re-opened for safe and easy vehicular movement,” he said.

He said the LASEMA response team, LRT Paramedics, Nigerian Police, LASG Fire and Rescue Services were all in attendance. (NAN)
