Government Secondary School, Afikpo Alumni Association (GSSAAA), has commended the school Principal, Mr Ogbonnia Nwachi for clinching the Presidential Award for 4th Best Public Secondary School in Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement signed by the GSSAAA’s Chairman, Board of Trustee, Mr Eze Uche, President, Dr Oko Elechi and Secretary, Mr Roxton Chukwu  on Friday in Abuja.

“The triumph of the most prestigious Government Secondary School, Afikpo (GSSA) in the just concluded 2023 World Teachers’ Day at Eagle Square, Abuja is commendable.

“Recall that GSSA emerged winner of a presidential award, having been rated by the presidency through the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja as 4th Best Public Secondary School in Nigeria.

“Nwachi, who is popularly known as `21st Century Digital Principal’ of GSSA, will be honoured for leading the school to clinch the coveted presidential award for the first time since the school was established 70 years ago.

“Interestingly, GSSA is the only public secondary school in the South-East Region to make the presidential award list, thereby earning a groundbreaking congratulatory message from the national body of GSSA,’’ the association said.

It also said that Nwachi became the first principal of the school to be issued a written congratulatory message by the national body of the school Old Boys Association.

According to them, the Alumni is going to honour Nwachi, whose effort led to clinching the award.

They said the celebration which slated for Nov. 11, woulf feature speeches, and awards to best students and staff, cultural dance and news broadcast by GSSA Press Club.

“The principal, staff, students, parents and other invited guests will join the celebration in the school assembly hall by zoom

 

“Other dignitaries in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria will hook on at their different locations nationwide, using the live streaming link.

“Also, Mr Celestine Onuh Annual Award for Academic Excellence will equally be awarded to the best students of the school during the event.

“The Award was established by students of the school that were taught by the departed workaholic Science/Mathematics teacher and philanthropist, Onuh. ’’ (NAN)
